NREP Project Overview July 2004
For more information on the LENS project click here.
The Neutron Radiation Effects Program (NREP) utilizes a 7 MeV proton beam impinging on a beryllium target to generate a neutron
spectrum with an endpoint of 5 MeV via the reaction 7Be(p,nX). The neutron beam is available for SEU and displacement damage tests. The
neutron flux (April 2006) is shown in the table below. Replacing the tube amplifiers with klystrons to power the linac will increase
the flux by two orders of magnitude (mid-2006).
| Measured flux 107 n/s/cm2 |
|
| Thermal, < 0.55 eV | 8.13+/-.17 |
| Fast, > ~3 MeV | 3.29+/-.21 |
| 1 MeV equiv. | 10.50+/-.45 |
A more detailed description of the facility and neutron flux measurements was presented at the Space Parts Working Group (SPWG) meeting in San Antonio, TX 1/11/2006. For a pdf version of the presentation click here.
