On June 15, 2009, IUCF and LENS hosted one hundred and twenty Pathfinder students on a half-day visit to the facility. The Indiana University Office of Community and School Partnership annually sponsor Pathfinders Summer Programs for Indiana Middle School Students. These summer camps are designed to expose, motivate and prepare students for college. This summer the Pathfinder students had an opportunity to visit IUCF. The students were treated to a Question and Answer session in the North Conference room highlighted with a few demonstrations. In addition, the Pathfinder students had an opportunity to learn about and tour IUCFs Control Room, the new Advanced Linac Electron-Photon facility (ALPHA), the Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) area, and the Low Energy Neutron Source (LENS) project. Many of students appeared to be intrigued by the research and science conducted at the facility. By exposing students early to educational and research opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, IUCF helps inspire our youth to continue to lead the world in scientific innovation and creativity.
