Report on the Program Advisory Committee meeting
The final decisions from the Program Advisory Committee are favorable for CSB. The recommendation is that we proceed with the experiment for each funding level. It now appears that we will have to wait until mid-January before we know for sure what our funding will be. At the lower funding levels, all experiments would have to made do with less total running time. For CSB, this would mean less production looking for d+d -> 4He+pi0 events. In the past, we have achieved our commissioning goals with less shifts than we had at first anticipated.
2002 Schedule
The running for 2002 will fall into three periods:
The running in January will start with proton beam. Pintex will look at pion production until January 14. Then there will be short access to finish CSB setup tasks, and CSB will run until January 28. Following that, operation will switch to polarized deuterons.
Various options were suggested for the deuteron running until March 18. One significant issue is the IU spring break the week of March 11. Tom Rinckel, and perhaps others associated with the CSB effort, will be out of town. It was deemed important to start running before people leave March 8.
Summer Visitors
Paul Pancella plans to be at IUCF this summer during the second long Cooler running period. He thinks Western Michigan will be done by late April.
Pre-run jobs list
The remaining jobs before we run:
Software
There was much discussion of the software. Essentially we need to go through and make sure that everything is in place and documented. There are likely to be a number of things to check and change. Run notes will be put into a ring binder for use during the run.
Part of the discussion concerned triggers. Now there are four:
