One of the two new graduate students starting this year, Chris Lavelle, has elected to join the group and help with the CSB experiment. He is taking a full load of courses and will be available in the afternoons three days a week.
Jack Rapaport's second detector has arrived. He will bring it with him when he comes to IUCF for the tagger run next week. He has an additional $1.5K to spend. The suggestion was that this go toward the purchase of HD gas for the calibration.
Since the tagger run has elected to continue, and Krisch's run is now cancelled, there is the suggestion that we come up with protons after Thankgiving to allow Krisch to reschedule. We need to consider how this will affect the priorities for CSB running. Clearly, putting the proton beam first would require that we begin with the p+d -> 3He+pi0 Pb-glass commissioning run first.
We need to check the design of the recoil detector for luminosity to see what angles are covered and whether we need to do anything to improve the collimator for the PSD.
The target box pumps down to 3 x 10^(-8) torr with Jack's turbopump and the 3/16" windows. Bowing of the window is less than 1/2". Parts for the insides are still being completed in the shop. We have one machinist full time, but there are also a number of things that need welding. A new exit snout is being made.
Jack claims that all the drawings are done for the Pb-glass array. Now that moves to the shop. The Thompson rails are already cut.
The controller on the large HV supply is being swapped with another one from BNL.
Hourly interviews are expected to start Friday and Monday.
