MINUTES OF THE COOLER-CSB GROUP MEETING

April 5, 2001 (PVP)

Present: Chris Allgower, Andy Bacher, Georg Berg, Anders Gardestig, Hermann Nann, Paul Pancella, Tom Rinckel, Ed Stephenson

The meeting came to order in the small conference room at 3:10 pm.

Stephenson started by reviewing the list of possible items which could be purchased with Jack Rapaport's money.

Vigdor has requested that we preserve the alignment of Tagger detectors which will be moved for the installation of the magnetic channel. These are the wire chambers and the large hodoscope. This should not pose a problem.

Berg presented results of the first Transport calculations for alphas with actual data from the septum maps. He has chosen 1200A (15.13 kG) as the operating point, which corresponds to about a 3 degree increase in the bend angle over the original design. Despite this, the vertical focusing is still marginal, and the quads must be located as close together as possible, within the limits of detectors and vacuum chamber flanges. A little more optimization may be possible, then the analysis will be done for the 3He test.

Gardestig now has a code for simulating the dd -> alpha gamma gamma process, which he has run for our energy. It shows some spin dependence. Stephenson is now in the process of incorporating the results into his simulation of the apparatus' acceptance, for signal to background comparisons.

Allgower reports that cable making for the lead glass array is well underway.

The question was asked, whether we should continue our weekly meetings during the coming busy period before the big run. The consensus was affirmative, with the understanding that we strive for efficiency, and that anyone doing actual work may be excused without prejudice.

The meeting adjourned at about 4:10 pm.
