ELECTRONICS
Since the last meeting, much progress has been made on the acquisition of electronic modules for the Cooler-CSB experiment. Ed Stephenson and Chris Allgower went to Brookhaven last week, Chris in a truck. The Memorandum of Understanding between Brookhaven and IUCF was made final, clearing the way for Brookhaven Property Management to release the requested modules. These were loaded into the truck on Friday, along with a large number of signal and high-voltage cables on loan from Argonne (stored at Brookhaven). Chris then returned with the truck to Bloomington.
The electronics was unpacked and the inventory checked. The cables were counted, giving 246 signal and 370 high-voltage. Not all of the signal cables are the right length for Pb-glass delays, so some additional cables will need to be made.
This week the loan agreement with Fermilab was signed to obtain FERA modules. Chris will go to Chicago over the weekend, then pick up the modules Monday morning. He will also visit Argonne to obtain some of the long scintillators Hal Spinka has for use as trigger counters in cosmic ray mode.
TARGET BOX DESIGN
Jack Doskow reviewed the design changes suggested by Walt Fox to the target box. Most important, flanges that seal directly to the sides of the box were eliminated in favor of welding on pipe stubs that contain one ready-made flange on the opposite end. This allow the sides to be thinner since there are not a large number of blind screw holes to tap. Frames for the large gamma-ray windows and two access ports on the left and right sides will be welded in place also. These will be tapped in the correct pattern before welding.
Some discussion ensued over the path for detector utilities, how to adjust the position of the jet, how to maintain tolerances in the present of warping, etc. Jack will prepare detailed drawing for review by Walt Fox and Tom Rinckel.
JOB LIST
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to reviewing the current Job List. A few small items were added. There was discussion of the need to push ahead on the question of the handling of magnetic shielding for the Pb-glass. Many of the jobs are the same as they were at the time of the septum magnet coil failure. Tentative responsibilities were assigned to many jobs. The list that appears on the Web includes the revisions made at the meeting.
This list will be updated periodically.
